Club History

The football Club “F.C. Saburtalo” was established in 20th of October, 2000, at the Public School N62, situated on N50, Iosebidze street. The founders of the school were Giga Arevadze, Mamuka Kvaratskhelia and Kartlos Chumburidze. The Director of the school was Kakha Chumburidze.

In 2005 the founder of the school was changed: “Saburtalo” was taken over the famous holding “IBERIA BUSINESS GROUP” and new prospects of development turned out. The school is situated in Saburtalo district and the name of the school was selected relatively. Though, the name was not given to the club at once, without serious considerations.

In our opinion, one of the reasons of attending the small number of spectators on the matches between the clubs of Tbilisi is the deficit of new approach to the club system.

The founders of “F.C. Saburtalo” consider that establishment and development Tbilisi district club structure is appropriate. Similar approach is used in the leading European countries and we believe this will promote the football supporters to return to stadiums.

“F.C. Saburtalo” is a newly founded school, though a lot of good deeds have been done already; many experienced coaches have been working in our school.

During the 2003-04 seasons FC “Dinamo” Tbilisi reached the unreachable heights          for Georgian clubs – the club qualified for UEFA Cup group stage, in 2003 became the winner of Moscow traditional tournament “Commonwealth Cup” and in 2004 possessed the Georgian Cup.

Three persons which inspired the above-mentioned success of the Club are related to the Club “F.C. Saburtalo”: the Vice-president of the Club David Petriashvili and the General Director Kakha Chumburidze were the Managers of FC “Dinamo” Tbilisi in 2003-2004. When Ghia Gheghuchadze was the Head Coach of the Team it managed to qualify for UEFA CUP group stage and to win the Georgian Cup. Two years ago he was growing up the future generation of “F.C. Saburtalo” Football School.

Koba Zhorzhikashvili cooperated closely with the school, under his leadership the Georgian U-17 National Team qualified for the European Championship, in addition, the team became the winner of the Youth Olympic Games in Liliano, Italy. Ghia Chiabrishvili used to work in “Saburtalo”. Presently he is the Head Coach of the second team of the FC “Gagra”.

Several our alumnus played in different National Teams of Georgia: Georgian National Team and FC “SCHALKE” player Levan Kenia has been trained in our school. Members of different National Teams are the players, who were grown up in “Saburtalo”: Tamaz Chargeishvili (1989), Erekle Kachakhidze (1991) and Erekle Akhalbedashvili (1991).

At present Giorgi Devdariani and Ghuram Chomakhidze teach the future generation. Many famous players acquired football skills under their leadership: Jaba Kankava, Zaal Eliava, Sandro Iashvili, Gocha Khojava, Rezo Getsadze, Besik Mikiashvili and etc.

Under the leadership of Giorgi Devdariani FC “Tbilisi” qualified for UEFA Cup Tournament and more importantly, the Club attracted many supporters in the short period due to its beautiful and devoted play. During two years 15 players were called for “A” and Youth National Teams from the team.

“Saburtalo” achievements are as follows

In 2001 the team-which was comprised with the players born in 1991 and where Levan Kenia was playing-won the “Bendela Cup” Youth Tournament.

In 2002 David Kipiani Cup tournament was played where the alumnus from our school, born in 1991 won the tournament.

We think that the disposal of web-side is one of the successes of “Saburtalo”. So far the own address in the internet from Georgian football schools has only “Baia”.
